ACT Percussion Ensemble
The ACT IMP Percussion Ensemble was formed in 2012 to meet the high demand for places for percussionists in IMP extension ensembles. The ensemble comprises approximately 20 percussionists in Years 7-12 in ACT public schools. Students are selected by audition.
This ensemble performs specially arranged music for tuned and untuned percussion, with students accessing a variety of instruments owned by the IMP. Music reading skills are required, and all participants are required to play instruments including drums, mallet instruments and auxiliary percussion. The ensemble is a teaching ensemble, and students may be selected who have not yet developed particular specialist percussion skills and techniques but who display a high degree of motivation and willingness to learn.
It is strongly encouraged that members of the ACT IMP Percussion Ensemble are also active and positive participants in their school bands, where the opportunities exist.
Private instrumental lessons for participants are strongly encouraged but not required. Please note the IMP does not provide private instrumental tuition.
There is an annual membership fee associated with participation in this ensemble, and this fee is subject to change each year. Please note that this fee is a contribution only and does not cover the full costs associated with a student’s participation in the group. There is an additional charge for the uniform shirt ordered via the IMP. Students are required to wear black pants, socks and shoes for all performances. There may also be additional costs associated with participation in excursions and other events.
In 2025, ACT IMP Percussion Ensemble rehearsals will be held each Tuesday 4:30-5:30pm during school terms, at the IMP premises in Kaleen.
In 2024, the conductor of the ACT IMP Percussion Ensemble is Jacinta Dunlop.
