ACT Junior Concert Band (JCB)
The ACT IMP Junior Concert Band (JCB) offers an extension opportunity for interested, hard-working and skilled woodwind, brass and percussion players in Years 7 and 8 in ACT public schools. Students are selected by audition, and entry is competitive. Membership in JCB is for one year only. All places are declared vacant at the end of each academic year, and students may choose to re-audition for a place in the group for the following year.
This ensemble performs repertoire covering a wide range of genres and which has been selected to provide a challenge above and beyond what students are likely to encounter in their school bands. Strong music reading skills are required of all participants. Percussionists access a variety of instruments owned by the IMP and are required to play instruments including drums, mallet instruments and auxiliary percussion.
It is strongly encouraged that members of JCB are also active and positive participants in their school bands, where the opportunities exist.
Private instrumental lessons for participants are strongly encouraged but not required. Please note the IMP does not provide private instrumental tuition.
There is an annual membership fee associated with participation in this ensemble, and this fee is subject to change each year. Please note that this fee is a contribution only and does not cover the full costs associated with a student’s participation in the group. There is an additional charge for the uniform shirt ordered via the IMP. Students are required to wear black pants, socks and shoes for all performances. There may also be additional costs associated with participation in excursions and other events.
In 2025, ACT IMP Junior Concert Band rehearsals will be held each Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm during school terms, at the IMP premises in Kaleen.
In 2024, the conductors of the ACT IMP Junior Concert Band are Susan Ford, Jane Rayner and Rob Speers.
