National Band and Orchestra Eisteddfod
Posted on 01 May 2024
We are excited to have some of our IMP Extension Ensembles performing at the National Eisteddfod in 2024. The Eisteddfod provides a wonderful performance opportunity for our IMP ensembles in which they will receive feedback from an external adjudicator. Our Senior Jazz Band will take part in the 18 years and under A grade Jazz Band section held at Lyneham High School Performing Arts Centre on Thursday 30 May. Our Primary Concert Band, Junior Concert Band, Senior Concert Band and String Ensemble will be taking part in a range of sections held on Saturday 1 June at Llewelyn Hall, ANU.International Women's Day at the IMP
Posted on 13 Mar 2024
As part of International Women’s Day, we are celebrating all of the inspiring and wonderful women involved in our IMP community. Sofia is in Year 9 at UC High School in Kaleen and has been involved in the IMP programs since Year 5.
“I am currently in my school band playing the tenor saxophone, percussion ensemble, senior concert choir and senior concert band on percussion.”
“When I was really little, I had this CD, jazz versions of the Spiderman music and I would sit in front of the CD player and listen to it for hours on end. My first musical experience was with the choir at Giralang Primary School and I then started playing piano in Year 2. Since then, I have been playing and performing here there and everywhere. I love being on stage under the lights, with people I know and making the audience happy by sharing our music.”
“I love the community that the IMP is. There is so much support and inclusivity and we are all here for the purpose of making music together. The IMP staff are incredible! They have a great sense of humour and are just such great people. They give us great music to play as well.”
“When I started in the school band, I was the only female percussionist. When I moved up to the Primary Concert Band in the IMP, I was also the only female percussionist. However, as we’ve gotten older, I can see there are now so many more female and gender diverse percussionist as well as a good gender balance across the full range of instruments. I think the gender balance is incredible.”
“I believe that the 2024 IWD theme, 'Invest in Women - Accelerate Progress" is a call for all to help remove the barriers that stop women from achieving their aspirations. Every person has a goal, and women have every right to make a difference in society. By building opportunity through equal funding and investing in female-led businesses, we give every dream a chance, and the progress benefits us all as a gender equality-focussed society. We should all support the women in our lives to achieve their goals, be it to win their next match, ace their next test, make their next deal, or blow away their audience.”

Talking with the IMP team
Our teachers and IMP staff work hard every day to provide the best outcomes for every student. Preparing for great teaching takes time. It is important that our teachers and IMP staff have time outside their core hours to rest and reset. Communication with parents and carers is important to us and our staff will always work to get back to your enquiries within a reasonable timeframe. We aim to do this within 3 workings days. If your matter is urgent we will get back to you as quickly as possible. There is no expectation that teachers respond to queries from families during their personal and family time.
Every student and every family is important to us. By respecting the time of our teachers, you are helping to make time for great teaching. We want to continue to work closely with you on your child’s learning through the IMP and do our best to respond to you in a timely manner.
We update families on what is happening at the IMP in a number of ways from information sessions and videos, emails, notes, newsletters, and social media. We encourage you to stay in touch with the IMP through these channels.
IMP System Ensembles Begin
Posted on 02 Mar 2024
All IMP system ensembles have kicked off 2024 with a bang. Students representing all ACT public schools converse on the IMP rehearsal room at UC High School after school each week to take part in choirs, concert and jazz bands, string ensemble and percussion ensemble. Our IMP students are working hard in preparing new repertoire for a busy year of performances. We look forward to sharing our music with parents, carers and the broader community throughout 2024!
