WELCOME TO THE ACT INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM
Excellence in music education since 1973
The ACT Instrumental Music Program (IMP) envisions a future where every student in ACT public schools has the opportunity to
experience the transformative power of music. We are dedicated to providing equitable access to high-quality music education for all students in ACT public schools. We provide opportunities for learners to develop skills in performance and artistic expression, striving for both excellence and enjoyment. Guided by our values of collaboration, respect, resilience, and integrity, we seek to inspire individuals to explore their potential, connect with others, and develop a life-long appreciation of music.

IMP Aims:
- To provide structured and progressive musical learning and performance experiences for all students.
- To empower students to become confident, adaptable, and reflective musicians and learners for life.
- To invest in our staff by promoting reflective practice, professional growth, and collaboration.
- To expand opportunities for ACT public school students through strategic partnerships and collaborations.
- To foster an inclusive and supportive music community that values connection and belonging.
- To honour and share the legacy of music education in ACT public schools.
- To champion equitable access to high-quality music education for every student.

The ACT Instrumental Music Program (IMP) is proud to announce the launch of its Strategic Plan 2025–2028, a bold and future-focused roadmap that sets the direction for the next three years of music education across ACT public schools. This Strategic Plan has been developed through a highly collaborative and consultative process, with meaningful contributions from IMP teaching staff, school leaders, students, families, and key stakeholders from across the ACT education and arts sectors. It reflects our shared belief in the power of music to enrich lives, foster inclusion, and support student wellbeing, engagement, and achievement.
Anchored by a refreshed mission, vision, and set of core values, the plan identifies strategic priorities that will guide the program’s ongoing evolution. The Strategic Plan aligns with the broader ACT Government’s Future of Education Strategy and represents a significant milestone in the growth of the IMP as a Territory-wide arts education program.
We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved through collaboration and reflection, and we are excited about the road ahead. This plan not only charts a path for the future but also reaffirms our commitment to working in partnership with schools, families, and communities to deliver high-quality and inclusive music education for all students.
As the IMP continues to work with over 80 ACT public schools each year, the Strategic Plan provides a strong foundation to grow, adapt, and innovate, ensuring all young people have the opportunity to experience the transformative impact of music education.
